Background:
Battle and Langton was founded in the Victorian era by the amalgamation of Battle Church School and the local charity school founded by Lady Langton. The school now occupies an award-winning building which overlooks the site of the Battle of Hastings. Its location in the heart of the town of Battle means it enjoys 'easy access to the many historic and geographic aspects of the locality' which it uses 'to enhance the delivery of the curriculum'. The school also enjoys 'close links' with local businesses and organisations which support the school financially and through extra-curricular activities and provision. Since it opened in 1987 this 'popular' school has doubled in size and 'numerous' extensions have been added to accommodate the extra numbers.
