Background:

Opened in 1949, Benfield Junior is a 'thriving community' bordered on all sides by urban development. It comprises 12 well-equipped classrooms and a new state-of-the-art library with adjacent ICT suite. Many classrooms have French windows leading out onto the playground, and all are equipped with computers with internet access. The school is fortunate to have a large assembly hall with well-equipped stage, which is also used as a gymnasium. Other facilities include a television room, music room, parents room and an award winning dining hall, in which parents and carers are always welcome to join their children for lunch. A large playground incorporates a quiet area, netball and football pitch and play equipment, and children benefit from a grassed area in summer. The school recently won an award to develop an exciting sensory garden. Nearby Victoria Park is used as playing fields. Children are encouraged to participate in organised activities after school and clubs available currently include choir, football, netball, environment club, karate and chess.
