Background:

Etchingham is a Church of England school founded in 1864 in a rural setting half a mile from the village of Etchingham. It has four classes, three of which are mixed age groups. The whole school has been recently refurbished and the teaching accommodation improved. A new playing field has just been established, using land donated by a neighbour and there is also a trainer swimming pool which is used daily in the summer months. Extra-curricular activities 'reflect the current interests of staff and children' and include football, netball, rounders, cricket and swimming. The school has a 'strong musical tradition' and children are given the opportunity to learn the recorder, violin, keyboard, piano and a variety of brass instruments. Children also participate in a number of drama activities during the year. This is a small village church school. The mission statement says 'all are welcome in the school where enjoyment and excellence are balanced with spiritual and social development'. This is a happy and very successful school based on Christian principles.
