Background:

Five Ashes CofE Primary School is a small rural school in the village of Five Ashes, near Mayfield. The original Victorian school building has undergone modernisation and improvements to provide three classrooms, hall, library and a thoughtfully designed playground. Further work in 1995 refitted one classroom and the school hall. A new extension in August 2003 has provided with a group teaching area, a separate indoor play area and an enclosed outdoor play area for the foundation stage. The school'successfully combines all the advantages of a small village school with the most recent advances in educational technology. The school offers a range of sporting opportunities. It plays regular matches against local schools and takes part in the area schools swimming gala. The variety of clubs available during the year includes recorders, football, dance, netball, art and gardening. There is a programme of fundraising events to help the school with recreational and educational activities. The school aims to provide a comfortable, but challenging, secure learning environment in which all strive to develop attitudes of cooperation, mutual respect and understanding within the caring atmosphere of the school.
