Background:

Pevensey and Westham Primary, part of which is 150 years old, is located in a village near the sea a few miles from Eastbourne, and is housed in a Victorian building which was renovated in Autumn 1996. The school has an eco-committee which has achieved the EcoSchools award for three years. It recently participated in a project researching the school's use of water, sharing the results with schools in the USA, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Finland. It also 'masterminded' the construction of play equipment and a pond in in the school wildlife area. The school is pleased to have had links with schools in Italy (Tolentino), Portugal (Lisbon) and Eire (Rosslare), funded through the EC Comenius Project until Spring 2000. A great deal of work was exchanged between all the schools, and Pevensey and Westham was pleased to be visited by teachers from Italy and Ireland. The final project was an interactive CD featuring a story written by the children from each school in turn. In March 1998 the school was chosen as East Sussex European Primary School of the Year for 1997.
