Background:
Mile Oak Infant and Junior Schools were founded on this site just over 30 years ago. The school has since developed into a 'large, all-through' primary with a 'brand new' five-classroom extension, 'fairly extensive' grounds with flowering almond and cherry trees and a large playing field. School teams take part in football, netball, cross-country, athletics and swimming and the football and athletics teams do 'particularly well' in Portslade and Hove leagues. The school also has a 'high profile' in the Brighton Festival and Portslade Festival and is 'noted for its musical achievements' particularly its choir, which takes part in all local music festivals. The school is 'very much part of the local community where a strong spirit of self-help exists'. Children are encouraged to be charitable and giving. The school council ensures that children's views and ideas are heard and given credence.
