Background:
Established in 1850, the school is accommodated in a single storey building situated on land adjoining the churchyard of Holy Cross Church. It comprises 14 classrooms, an ICT suite, school hall, gymnasium (equipped each day for use as a dining hall), fiction and non-fiction libraries, resource rooms and small teaching room for SEN, music room and kiln room. The school has a full complement of staff and administrative facilities. An 'attractive, landscaped environment garden' was recently completed and has won the Bishop's commendation 'for the ongoing development of the school grounds to enable the children to gain a greater insight into the management and care of God's world'. 'Extensive' playing fields enable the school to achieve 'excellence in sport' especially in cricket, and the girls' team has been county champions three times. The school has 'very successful' clubs which have been recognised by national awards including a book club, ICT, orchestra, craft, gardening, netball, football, soft tennis and rhythmic gymnastics.
