Background:
St Bernadette's is a one-form entry Catholic primary school educating boys and girls between the ages of four and 11. In the main, the school takes pupils from the parishes of St Thomas More's and St Mary's. The school is situated on a beautiful site on the outskirts of Brighton; the building originally was the Lourdes Convent. The school provides specialist teaching in music and Modern Foreign Languages. It also offers a full range of extra-curricular activities, which includes football, netball, cross-country, athletics, tennis, art, gardening and dance. In 2003 the school was recognised by the DfES with an achievement award for outstanding results and achieved Artsmark Gold in recognition of its commitment to raising standards in music and creative arts. The school has a very clear ethos of Catholic education. Every member of the community is inspired to work as a team to create a purposeful, calm and friendly environment, which truly reflects the school ethos and the Gospel Catholic values promote the success.
