Background:
The school dates back to the 1860s but the present building opened in the 1970s. It is of modern design, built on one level and surrounded on all sides by extensive, pleasant grounds with playground, grassy areas, games field, low-level climbing/assault course, conservation area, pond and outdoor heated swimming pool. The school offers four classrooms bordering a large central activity area, a hall, well resourced library and computer suite with internet access. All curriculum subjects are taught, in addition to French at Key Stage 2. Personal, social and health education (PHSE) is 'very important, used as an aid to behaviour management and social skills'. Extra-curricular clubs include football, netball, art, craft, ICT, music, choir, chess, gardening, swimming and athletics. Strong community links are maintained, including with a nearby old people's home and the church. Children raise money for a variety of charities each year. The school gained the Basic Skills Quality Mark in 1999.
