Background:
Originally a secondary modern, the school was reorganised re-sited and enlarged in 1979. A mathematics and technology block was added in 1981 followed by a dual-use sports hall in 1983 and a #1m extension for the expressive art block and the refurbishment of the main building in 1993. The Cavendish is proud of its 'special reputation' in mathematics, English, drama, music and soccer and of its extra-curricular activities which include subject workshops, exchanges in French and German, bi-annual skiing trips, music tours and competitive weekend sporting tournaments at home and abroad. Although the school's facility for boys' games is off-site, it is a soccer 'school of excellence'.
