Background:

Tollgate is a non-denominational community junior school maintained by the local education authority. Built in 1968 it caters for boys and girls between the ages of seven and 11. There are two large playgrounds, a school field, three quiet areas, an ornamental pond and a natural wildlife pond. The grounds provide excellent opportunities for environmental work as well as simple facilities for sports and play. The ICT suite was completed in 2003 and there are computers in each classroom. A wide range of activities are offered to the children either at lunchtime or after-school. These include cricket, football, netball, athletics, choir, drama, French and steel drums. Children can also receive music tuition for violin, trumpet and keyboard. Every year visits have been undertaken to various parts of the country. These include day visits as well as camps. The school has strong links with local churches in the community. The school aims to provide a safe, caring, happy and stimulating atmosphere within an aesthetically pleasing environment.
