Background:
The village school was housed in a Victorian building until 1980 when the present building opened, which now houses five classes. The popular school for the local area is in a beautiful situation in a very quiet area with views over open countryside. It offers five teaching areas, a main hall, library, kitchen, resources room, swimming pool, two playgrounds and a playing field. An adventure play area and large play-boat have recently been built and the school values play enormously. It delivers a broad and balanced curriculum with an emphasis on positive behaviour strategies. Music is strength. The school choir achieved excellent results in the Hastings Festival and school productions are also excellent. The school also offers information and communication technology (ICT) facilities, while art and physical education are further strengths. Extra-curricular activities include football, netball, choir, art, gardening, ballet, cricket, swimming, cross-country, chess and French. The school has excellent links with its local village community, including the hospice in St Leonards and St Augustine's nursing home, and organises lots of events such as community school lunches and entertainment by the children. It also has an excellent parents teacher association and very good church links. In April 2000 the school was awarded the Basic Skills Quality Mark for its work in literacy and numeracy. The school aims to provide a happy, secure, caring and stimulating environment, within a Christian community.
